Demand for DenturesAs the demand for dentures increases each year, more and more dentists and denturists will need to fulfill the need for quality dentures. In order to provide the demand for quality dentures, dentists will require additional training in order to fully understand the mechanics of all procedures and improve the delivery of dentures to the public. One of the best formats for this type of training is the hands-on workshops facilitated by a well trained, experienced denturist. With this in mind, the denturist profession will be more widely recognized and therefore an advantage to the patient when dentist and denturist work hand-in-hand. Since most dentures today are manufactured in commercial labs, the patient is typically never seen by the lab technician and each part of the actual denture work is departmentalized - the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Keeping as much of the denture work under one roof (the dentist's office) is the way to go in most cases. Even outsourcing the denture work after a dentists receives proper training would reduce costs with excellent en results. This is my belief for the future delivery of excellent dentures. Permanent Soft Lining Almost all lower dentures could use a soft lining. There are various types available on the market today where some linings last longer than others. The lining I have used for the past 30 years is Mollo Plast B and outlasts most other soft linings I've tried. The soft lining acts as a cushion for the lower jaw making it more comfortable for the wearer to chew all kinds of hard foods very easily. Placing the soft lining is a complex procedure requiring a trained and experienced technician. Special tools are needed for adjustments in order to reach satisfactory results for the patient. All lower dentures with permanent soft linings should have a lingual bar inserted to prevent the denture from breaking in half. |
