Innovative Technique for fitting Dentures
Balanced Equilibration and Proper Fit
- First
establish a perfect centric relationship in the mouth and then a
protusive and both lateral excursions.
- All chewing should occur without unnecessarily disturbing
the lower denture or the upper from in situ.
- Cutting edge teeth have a 10% angle of movement making the
upper denture aesthetically pleasing, but highly functional in
chewing apple skins, lettuce and steak very easily.
- 95% - 98% of dentures don’t work optimally because the bite
is off.
- Moodley’s method for establishing a true centric
relationship is very accurate. The verto-centric relationship is
recorded with the bite rims.
- Upper and lower are 100% fitted to the jaws when recording
the bite - this is the key to our success.
- This direct method for recording bite is what gives absolute
success in the making and fitting of dentures.
The "Moodley Method"
-
The innovative method for recording an accurate bite for
denture fitting is called the “Moodley Method”
- We use the patient’s jaw relationship to get a detailed
impression.
- The mouth is rinsed well with an anesthetic-antiseptic mouth
wash to remove all saliva and slightly numb the mouth reducing
the gag response during the impression.
- Dentures are formed from the impression under thousands of
pounds of pressure to attain an excellent fit.
- Moodley’s principle supersedes hand pressure impressions for
dentures of the past 50 years, a hit-or-miss proposition at
best. If you have ever observed the many ill-fitting denture
remedies on drugstore shelves, you will have some idea of the
magnitude and scope of the problem.
